Norman and Birch was first established in Market Drayton in 1926, originally selling cars and tractors. Mr Norman then parted ways to pursue selling cars down south, however the company name remained. The business grew and moved to Hanley in the 1950s. With the demise of the UK car industry in the late 1960s, and oil prices soaring after the Suez Crisis, we decided to sell scooters. The family still sold cars and Nick Birch had a Mazda dealership at Town Road Garage. The business also opened Stoke Motorcycles, which ran for many years. Many franchises were housed within the company: Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Vespa and Cagiva.
As the years went on and markets changed, we continued solely with the premises on Clough Street in Hanley. Still a family run business, with Nick Birch’s daughter and grandson, we offer a range of new machines, such as: Peugeot, Keeway, SYM, Royal Alloy, Zontes, Moto Morini and Lexmoto.
In 2016, we got the opportunity to expand the premises with an adjoining warehouse. This has allowed us to house over 200 new and used motorcycles. Our workshop facilities can cater for a vast range of motorcycle repairs, servicing and MOTs.

We house over 100 used motorbikes and scooters. From 50cc learner legal, to budget bikes, to full blow sports bikes and tourers. Our quality approved USED bikes all come with a Pre-delivery inspection, will have a basic service and are provided with 12 months MOT. We also provide a return to base warranty. (Subject to advert or agreed differently from a normal sale). We also can part-exchange your bike and when you are ready to sell offer a buying service. Most bikes can be secured with a small deposit and balance on collection or delivery within a few days.
Service & MOT Centre
We operate our on-site service and M.O.T centre 6 days a week. We offer diagnostic equipment, ultra-sonic cleaning, tyre fitting and full engine rebuild facilities. We have over 50 years of experience and have seen every possible scenario where we are well equipped to offer support, quotes and a high standard of service. We are able to supply genuine, aftermarket and used parts to fix your motorbike. Our hourly labour rate is still very low compared to main dealers in the area.
